Sensitivity Analysis of Traffic Equilibria

چکیده

T contribution of the paper is a complete analysis of the sensitivity of elastic demand traffic (Wardrop) equilibria. The existence of a directional derivative of the equilibrium solution (link flow, least travel cost, demand) in any direction is given a characterization, and the same is done for its gradient. The gradient, if it exists, is further interpreted as a limiting case of the gradient of the logit-based SUE solution, as the dispersion parameter tends to infinity. In the absence of the gradient, we show how to compute a subgradient. All these computations (directional derivative, (sub)gradient) are performed by solving similar traffic equilibrium problems with affine link cost and demand functions, and they can be performed by the same tool as (or one similar to) the one used for the original traffic equilibrium model; this fact is of clear advantage when applying sensitivity analysis within a bilevel (or mathematical program with equilibrium constraints, MPEC) application, such as for congestion pricing, OD estimation, or network design. A small example illustrates the possible nonexistence of a gradient and the computation of a subgradient.

Stability of Transportation Networks Under Adaptive Routing Policies

Growing concerns regarding urban congestion, and the recent explosion of mobile devices able to provide real-time information to traffic users have motivated increasing reliance on real-time route guidance for the online management of traffic networks. However, while the theory of traffic equilibria is very well-known, fewer results exist on the stability of such equilibria, especially in the c...

Sensitivity Analysis of Aggregated Variational Inequality Problems, with Application to Traffic Equilibria

Some instances of variational inequality models over polyhedral sets can be stated in a disaggregated or aggregated formulation related by an affine variable transformation. For such problems, we establish that sensitivity analysis results under parameterizations rely neither on the strict monotonicity properties of the problem in terms of the disaggregated variables, nor on any particular choi...

THE ROLE OF TREATMENT ON CONTROLLING CHANCROID PREVALENCE

Chancroid is a highly infectious and curable sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Haemophilus Ducreyl (also known as H. Ducreyl). A deterministic mathematical model for investigating the role of treatment on controlling chancroid epidemic is formulated and rigorously analyzed. A threshold quantity known as the productive number, which measures the number of secondary infections ...

On the applicability of sensitivity analysis formulas for traffic equilibrium models

The paper by Tobin and Friesz (1988) brought the classic nonlinear programming subject of sensitivity analysis to transportation science. It is still the most widely used device by which “gradients” of traffic equilibrium solutions (that is, flows and/or demands) are calculated, for use in bilevel transportation planning applications such as network design, origin–destination (OD) matrix estima...

Attitudes of Iranians toward the Becker Proposition

This paper evaluates attitudes of Iranians toward crossing red traffic lights and their sensitivity to fines. Economic theory of crime under expected utility predicts that because of the possibility of severe punishments, risk adverse individuals would not cross red lights. This is implied by the Becker proposition. However, among 262 individuals surveyed, more than half of the sample has previ...
